In Character Information
Name: Hino Eiji
Series: Kamen Rider OOO
Canon Standing: After the Mega Max movie
Age: Eiji is in his twenties.
Birthday & Astrology Sign: October 26. Scorpio!
Arcana: The Fool!

Personality:
At the beginning of Kamen Rider OOO, Eiji appears to be an incredibly laid-back, free-spirited drifter with no savings who lives an incredibly temporary lifestyle. He has no permanent address, no long-term life plan for himself, and survives by taking on temp jobs. His possessions are literally some change, the clothes on his back, and the underwear he's going to be wearing the next day. In fact, when the art museum at which he's accepted a job as a security guard explodes around him, complete with alarms blaring and the cops showing up, Eiji's most pressing concern is that he no longer has a clean pair of underwear for tomorrow. And not that he could have, you know, died.

Soon after the show begins, however, Eiji is approached by the mysterious Ankh (who assumes Eiji will basically become a brainless tool he can use for his own ends) and given the ability to transform into a masked hero called Kamen Rider OOO. Delighted with his newfound power to help others, however, Eiji throws a spanner in the works by charging into the nearest collapsing high-rise tower to rescue the people trapped inside, refusing to transform unless Ankh allows him access to OOO's power whenever Eiji wants it, rather than whenever it directly benefits Ankh. Because Eiji is the only one compatible with the OOO belt, Ankh is forced to concede -- but not before Eiji shows how serious he is by literally forcing negotiations with Ankh while he's in free-fall, hurtling towards the ground and certain doom. Eiji would literally rather die than not try to help someone whose life is in danger.

Later on, this seemingly extreme stance is given more context, as it is revealed that Eiji is actually afflicted with immense guilt. As a son born into a powerful politician's family, Eiji grew up without want, nurturing within himself a strong desire to travel from country to country and 'save the world'. One year prior to the series, however, Eiji's attempt to use his fortune to help out a poor village backfired in the worst possible way: the money was instead used to fund a bloody civil war which was essentially orchestrated by his own family without his knowledge. The ensuing conflict ended up taking the life of the first friend Eiji had made in the village: a young girl, who became caught in a terrible bomb blast. Unable to save her, Eiji was eventually taken hostage with the other villagers. He would later be allowed to leave when his family paid his ransom, but as they paid only for his release, he was forced to abandon the other hostages. Shortly afterwards, the media coverage surrounding the incident was twisted to paint Eiji as a heroic figure who had tried to save the village, winning Eiji's family much political capital in Japan. Crushed by the knowledge of what his family had done to win itself votes (up to and including using their own son's dreams to make the world a better place as a tool to further their political power), as well as the extreme guilt at having escaped scot-free while the villagers were abandoned to their fate, Eiji changed entirely. He became the Eiji of the present: a man simultaneously desperate to help others in need and yet too afraid to aim any higher than helping the people directly around him, convinced that he was powerless to do any more and his original dream -- to be able to help anyone in the world -- was impossible and foolish.

Despite his desperate desire to help others, Eiji doesn't often do much to help himself, as he's convinced that in the great chain of People Who Need Help, he pretty much ranks at rock bottom. Despite professing to love international travel, for instance, Eiji spends an entire year 'gathering funds' in Japan for his next trip, yet never manages to save up enough to actually go anywhere. Nor does he ever stay at one job long enough to actually get promoted anywhere that matters. He's so reluctant to do anything to better his situation, in fact, that it's only when the owner of Cous Coussier (the restaurant at which he gets a part-time job) pointedly asks him to move into the attic and continue to help out instead of just moving on to the next gig that Eiji actually gets a semi-permanent place to live. Ironically, it's Eiji's lack of selfish desire that makes him ideal to serve as Kamen Rider OOO, as the Core Medals and Cell Medals that power most of his abilities are basically pure, concentrated human greed -- greed that overwhelmed the original OOO.

This same lack of desire, however, becomes a major issue with the introduction of the purple Core Medals, which are attracted to lack of desire. Semi-sentient, they house themselves within Eiji's body, attracted to his void of selfish ambition, where their presence and Eiji's conviction that he needs to rely on their power slowly begin to transform him into a destructive monster. Eiji's friends attempt to help him, but are largely unsuccessful, as Eiji reasons that as long as he can use his power to save others, what matters to him doesn't really matter.

Ultimately, however, and just in the nick of time, Eiji finally remembers the ambition he once had and buried deep within himself: the wish for the power to help anyone in the world. With this desire in hand, Eiji is finally able to not only save himself from becoming a Greeed, but master the purple Core Medals and thus defeat the penultimate villain of Kamen Rider OOO. At the end of the series, he is once again traveling the world, his will to live rather than to simply exist firmly rekindled.

Eiji is eager to help others, often interfering even in issues that don't involve him. He's friendly and polite, but also playful: he enjoys playing with the Kougami Foundation's Candroids and if nothing in particular is at stake during a battle, may tease enemies during fights by dancing around slower opponents. He is also not above getting into childish arguments or teasing his friends -- in particular Ankh, who is something between a friend and an antagonistic ally. While Eiji doesn't approve of Ankh's callousness and insensitivity, for instance, he seems to have more or less gotten used to Ankh's acerbic personality and constant threats.

Ankh rants at Eiji, punches him, grabs him by the face or shirtfront, and uses Eiji like a tool. In return, Eiji lectures Ankh, makes up stories about him, treats Ankh like a Core Medal piggybank on at least one occasion, and threatens to quit being OOO if Ankh won't let him transform when he wants to. Still, Eiji displays concern for Ankh on more than one occasion, giving him money for popsicles, borrowing Cell Medals to help stabilize Ankh's body, and even taking Ankh's side when everyone else suspects Ankh of turning bad (or worse than he already is, anyway). Eiji clearly trusts Ankh enough to manage the Core Medals, as Ankh is the one to toss him medals and change his OOO transformations based on how the battle is progressing.

Though they rarely fight together, Eiji is also fairly close with Hina, the younger sister of the comatose policeman whose body Ankh is possessing. Though they're originally brought together by chance, Eiji and Hina quickly become friends, as Hina's baffling strength allows her to strongarm Ankh into obeying her. Eiji, for his part, takes Hina's safety and happiness to heart, feeling personally responsible for the fact that Ankh has taken over her brother's body. Because he understands how much she cares about her brother, Eiji sometimes bribes Ankh to hold hands with Hina and sides with her in encouraging Ankh to eat regular meals (as a Greeed with a dulled sense of taste, Ankh would much rather eat popsicles 24/7, which would not be at all healthy for his adopted body).

In addition, Eiji is on friendly terms with all of the main cast, even his rival Kamen Rider, Date, and the even slightly-sinister president of the Kougami Foundation, who has been demonstrated to be an amoral weirdo who regularly excavates ancient ruins so he can revive superpowered evil villains just to see what will happen. In general, unless a character is irredeemably evil or threatening someone else's life, Eiji's easygoing nature more or less allows them to coexist (particularly if cooperating with them will save lives, as the most important concern in Eiji's mind is keeping people safe).

Canon Powers:
Eiji is pretty much an average human being -- he's been in quite a few fights, but on his own, has no special powers. With the help of his OOO Driver system, however, Eiji has the ability to transform into Kamen Rider OOO (O's, rhymes with doze), a masked superhero. In order to transform, Eiji must insert three Core Medals (basically animal-themed power coins) into his belt, one each for his head, arms, and legs. Each Core Medal gives him access to different powers and weaknesses; by mixing and matching the Core Medals properly, Eiji can create specialized combinations that are useful for most any opponent. For example, Eiji's go-to combination, the TaToBa Combo, combines the Taka/Hawk head section for increased accuracy, the Tora/Tiger arms for powerful clawed gauntlets, and the Batta/Grasshopper legs for increased kicking and jumping power. Each of Eiji's combos has a special attack referred to as a Scanning Charge (basically a limit break), which utilizes the abilities of each of the three Core Medals that make up the combo.

In a fight, if a particular section of OOO receives a significant amount of damage, the power of that section will be disrupted. If it takes further damage, the power will cut off completely and the section's corresponding Medal will be forcefully ejected from the OOO Driver, canceling the transformation.

In addition, each of the Core Medals comes from a specific "set" -- for example, the red Core Medals are all bird-themed, and consist of the Hawk head, Peacock arms, and Condor legs. If Eiji uses three medals from the same set to transform, he can access forms with special powers unique to that set.

Because describing every single combo possible would be horrific, instead I'm providing a list of the Core Medals and their innate powers, as well as a list of the most prominent combos in Kamen Rider OOO. A much more complete combo list can be found here.

Also, if the explanation above is totally confusing, please see this video, which will explain things in a more entertaining fashion involving much punching of rubber monsters.

Red/Bird medals: The Red Core Medals are fire and bird-themed.
• Taka/Hawk: The Taka Medal greatly improves Eiji's senses and accuracy, allowing him to see inside the bodies of enemies to see the location of Core Medals (if any). (Uh. Mind?)
• Kujaku/Peacock: The Kujaku Medal gives Eiji access to the Taja Spinner, a buckler-like gauntlet. Up to seven Medals can be placed inside the Taja Spinner to power its attacks, which consist of shooting fireballs at an enemy. When used in conjunction with the O Scanner, this medal allows Eiji to perform a less powerful non-elemental attack (if Cell Medals are placed in the Taja Spinner), or a more powerful elemental attack (if Core Medals are placed inside). Red Core Medals, for instance, will produce fireballs and allow Eiji to wreathe himself in flames for the Magna Blaze aerial charge attack. (Physical, Fire, or Fire/Physical)
• Condor: The Condor Medal allows Eiji to transform his legs into powerful raptor-like talons and enhances the power of his kicks. (Physical/Fire)

Yellow/Cat medals: The Yellow Core Medals are light/heat and cat-themed.
• Lion: The Lion Medal allows Eiji to emit intense light from his helmet in normal form. (Light?)
• Tora/Tiger: The Tora Medal allows Eiji to use powerful tiger claw gauntlets as weapons. He can also perform air slashes with these. (Physical or Wind for long distance)
• Cheetah: The Cheetah Medal allows OOO to move at blurring speeds and use super-fast kick attacks. (Physical)

Green/Insect medals: The Green Core Medals are insect-themed.
• Kuwagata/Stag Beetle: The Kuwagata Medal allows Eiji to zap enemies with lightning generated from his horned helmet. (Lightning)
• Kamakiri/Praying Mantis: The Kamakiri Medal gives access to the super-sharp Kamakiri Sword gauntlets. (Wind/Physical)
• Batta/Grasshopper: The Batta Medal allows Eiji to jump and kick with great strength. When used in Scanning Charge or when energy is pushed into the legs, the legs become more grasshopper-like, allowing OOO to jump high in the air to perform a Rider Kick or to reach higher places. (Physical)

Blue/Sea medals: The Blue Core Medals are generally water-themed and are inspired by oceanic animals.
• Shachi/Killer Whale: The Shachi Medal allows Eiji to receive and emit sonic waves, shoot out streams of water and dive underwater for up to 3 hours. (Uhhh... Wind for the sonic waves and Water for the water sprays?)
• Unagi/Electric Eel: The Unagi Medal allows Eiji to use the Unagi Whips, weapons that deliver electric shocks to the target upon contact. (Electric/Physical)
• Tako/Octopus: The Tako Medal allows Eiji access to use suckers on his feet to attach to floors, walls, and ceilings, as well as being able to split his legs up into eight tentacles that can trap a target, barrage a target with kicks or become a drill when used in a Scanning Charge. (Water/Physical)

Grey/Heavy animal medals: The Grey Core Medals are inspired by large animals and are gravity-themed.
• Sai: The Sai Medal gives Eiji a super-hard helmeted head, perfect for headbutts. (Physical)
• Gorilla: The Gorilla Medal allows Eiji to fire his armored gauntlets at an opponent like missiles. (Physical)
• Zou/Elephant: The Zou Medal allows Eiji to cause minor earthquakes with a mere stamp of his foot. (Earth/Physical)

Note: For the sake of simplicity/sanity, I've only included the main animal Core Medals, which does not include the dinosaur medals, the reptile medals, the movie-only medals, and so on.

As mentioned earlier, the single-set combinations like TaJaDor allow Eiji access to abilities that are not otherwise accessible through normal, non-matching combinations. Below are details on the single-set combinations, as well as Eiji's default normal combination, TaToBa.

TaToBa (Hawk, Tiger, Grasshopper):
Punching power: 4.5 t.
Kicking power: 12 t.
Maximum jump height: 190 m.
Maximum running speed: 100 m/ 4.5 s

TaToBa is Eiji’s main combo, a jack of all trades. It is armed with the Tora Claw gauntlets, and allows Eiji to transform his legs into the Batta Legs to reach enemies that are out of his reach, such as ones that can fly. This combo is also the most balanced in speed and power. Using TaToBa, Eiji can execute a finishing drop-kick move called the Tatoba Kick. (Physical)

Tajador Combo (Hawk, Peacock, Condor):
Punching power: 6.5t
Kicking power: 15t
Prominence Drop: 150t
Maximum Jump Height: 160m
Maximum Running Speed: 100m/4s

Also known as the "Blazing Combo". The TaJaDor combo allows Eiji to see great distances (like a hawk), create peacock feather energy projectiles to direct at opponents, use the Kujaku Wings to fly, project Core Medal-like energy at its opponents, shoot streams of fire, and use the talon-like attachments of the Condor Legs as a weapon. TaJaDor's Scanning Charge finisher is the Prominence Drop, a fiery aerial drop-kick that makes use of the talons of the Condor Legs. (Fire, Physical, and Fire/Physical depending on how Eiji chooses to attack)

LaToraTah Combo (Lion, Tiger, Cheetah):
Punching Power: 4.5 t.
Kicking Power: 9 t.
Maximum Jump Height: 80 m.
Maximum Running Speed: 100 m/ 0.222 ms

Also known as the "Scorching Combo". The LaToraTah combo allows Eiji to emit an intense combination of heat and light from his helmet, make use of the Tora Medal's tiger claw gauntlets, and run at high speeds. The Cheetah Legs also enable him to perform the Revol Spin Kick. LaToraTah is a high-speed combo with relatively weak armor but great agility. Its Scanning Charge finisher is the Gash Cross, a running cross-slash with energy-infused tiger claws and accompanied by the force of the Cheetah Medal's speed. (Light, Fire, and Physical).

ShaUTa Combo (Killer Whale, Eel, Octopus):
Punching power: 3.5t
Kicking power: 8t
Maximum Jump Height: 75m
Maximum Running Speed: 100m/6s

Also known as the "Marine Combo". The ShaUTa combo allows Eiji to swim rapidly underwater and transmute his own body into liquid. It is armed with the Denki Unagi Whips which enable electrically charged attacks. In addition, the Tako Legs allow Shauta Combo to climb walls with their suction cup-like abilities and can split apart into eight tentacles to deliver a barrage of hits. The Shauta Combo is noticeably weaker than the other combos, but well-suited for underwater combat. Its Scanning Charge is the Octo Banish, in which Eiji uses the Unagi Whips to immobilize an opponent and pierces their armor from above by using the Octo Legs as a drill. (Water, Lightning, Physical)

SaGoZo Combo (Rhinoceros, Gorilla, Elephant):
Punching Power: 8t
Kicking power: 10.5t
Maximum Jump Height: 55m
Maximum Running Speed:100m/6.5s

Also known as the "Gravity Combo". The SaGoZo combo grants Eiji incredible strength at the cost of speed. He can perform powerful headbutting attacks, fire his gauntlets at opponents, create powerful shockwaves by banging his fists against his chest, manipulate gravity to make his opponents lighter/himself heavier/drag opponents toward him, and create minor earthquakes with the Zou Legs. SaGoZo's Scanning Charge finisher is the SaGoZo Impact, in which Eiji manipulates gravity to lift an enemy into the air, then delivers multiple blows to them once they're immobilized. (Physical, Earth)

GataKiriBa Combo (Stag Beetle, Praying Mantis, Grasshopper):
Punching Power: 4 t.
Kicking Power: 12 t.
Maximum Jump Height: 200 m.
Maximum Running Speed: 100 m. per 5.2 sec.

Also known as the "Strongest Combo". Aside from the ability to shoot lightning from the Stag Beetle's horns, use the Kamakiri Swords to attack, and the increased jumping and kicking ability afforded to him by the Batta Legs, GataKiriBa has the ability to split Eiji into many duplicates of himself. Its Scanning Charge finisher is the GataKiriBa Kick, which involves Eiji splitting himself into duplicates and performing simultaneous flying sidekicks on an enemy. It is (according to Eiji) apparently kind of difficult to get the duplicates to disappear so Eiji can cancel this transformation.

Canon Weapons|Items:
The Medajalibur is a sword that serves as Kamen Rider OOO's main weapon. By inserting three Cell Medals into the Medajalibur and scanning them with the O-Scanner, it can be used to perform a slashing finishing attack called the OOO Bash. It can be used to cut objects even from a distance away. Interestingly, when it cuts through inanimate objects like a building, the object reforms. (Physical, Wind for distance attacks)

The Candroids are special support robots that are stored within the Ride Vendor. Ordinarily in the shape of a beverage can, they can transform into small animal-like robots after pulling the pull-tab on top of the can. The Candroids understand simple commands and are capable of cooperating each other to achieve more complex behaviors. For example, when ordered to search an area, they will decide amongst themselves in which direction they will split up.
• The Taka (Hawk) Candroid can fly and is primarily used to find an object or person and return once they have found their target. With the right equipment at hand, they can be used as a recon device to transmit images to a laptop, but this requires a compatible laptop.
• The Tako (Octopus) Candroid is a flexible flyer that can join with fellow Tako Candroids to form various things like roads, bungee cords, or trampolines. On its own, a single Tako Candroid is able to defend itself by spraying ink at its attacker.
• The Batta (Grasshopper) Candroid is an experimental Candroid that acts as a two-way voice transmitter.
• The Tora (Tiger) Candroid can enlarge itself and combine with the Ride Vendor to become the Toride Vendor.
• The Denki Unagi (Electric Eel) Candroid is designed to gather Cell Medals more effectively, and is also capable of releasing electric shocks. (Electric)
• The Kujaku (Peacock) Candroid’s peacock-like tail spins at great speed to propel itself, create small tornadoes, and can act like a buzzsaw blade. (Wind, Physical)
• The Ptera (Pteradactyl) Candroid is a swiftly-flying Candroid that can produce a sound wave-based attack. (Wind)

Canon Baggage:
The OOO Driver is a belt that gives Eiji Hino the ability to become Kamen Rider OOO. To transform into Kamen Rider OOO, Eiji inserts three Core Medals into the O Slater at the front of the belt, which has slots for each medal. The Medals are then scanned with the O Scanner. Only Eiji can use the OOO Driver to transform into Kamen Rider OOO, although it's possible for someone else to make him transform into Kamen Rider OOO by placing medals in the Driver and scanning them.

The O Scanner is a device that is able to read the energy found within the Core Medals. In addition to its use in transforming Eiji into Kamen Rider OOO, Eiji can replace medals in his OOO Driver as needed, rescanning them to transform into a different combination. Rescanning the Core Medals in the OOO Driver without changing the medal configuration will activate one of Kamen Rider OOO's finishing attacks (referred to as a Scanning Charge). A unique Scanning Charge exists for each combination of Core Medals.

As described above, the O Scanner can also be used on Cell Medals inserted into the Medajalibur to initiate its Scanning Charge, which is designated as "Single", "Double", or "Triple", depending on how many medals OOO has put into the sword (maximum of three). The only difference between the Scanning Charges is the amount of energy that is output for the OOO Bash.

The RideVendor is a mass-produced motorcycle that usually appears to be a vending machine. Once a Cell Medal has been inserted into the machine, however, Eiji can use it to buy a Candroid, as you might buy a soft drink from a normal vending machine. Alternatively, the RideVendor can be transformed back into a motorcycle and used to ride around. It can be operated without using Cell Medals by remote control, provided one knows how to switch functionality on and off. Eiji doesn't.

By combining with the Tora Candroid, the RideVendor can become the TorideVendor, a much more powerful motorcycle. As the Toride Vendor, its speed and power is increased and it can use claw-like attachments to release Medal-shaped blasts of energy. But due to its feral nature (it behaves like a wild animal), the TorideVendor is only compatible with Kamen Rider OOO while he is in his LaToraTah Combo. The machine's ability to siphon the excess energy allows OOO to use the Combo without overexerting himself.

1st Person | Action Example
Uh, hi everyone. My name is Hino Eiji. But you can just call me Eiji.

So... I don't really know how I got here, and this isn't really the world I'm used to, but I used to live in a version of Japan, and a lot of the stuff seems familiar. So if you need any help with stuff -- like, I don't know, the vending machines or the food or anything, I'll try and help out! We're all in this together, right?

Aaaanyway, uh. Nice to meet you. And I know this must be scary. But don't lose hope, okay? I promise I'll do whatever I can to fix whatever happened!

3rd Person | Prose Example
"Shikoku, huh?" Eiji had been to the area a couple times -- had been around to most of Japan, as a matter of fact -- but it had never been quite like this. He was starting to get used to living around here, though the irony of being trapped in one town just as he'd finally started to get into the swing of truly traveling again didn't escape him. It wasn't like it was a particularly bad place, either, just...

He put his hand in his pocket, took out the two halves of Ankh's Medal. Yeah. It was just that he had something else to do, someplace else to be, and his friend (if you could call Ankh a friend) was waiting for him. Things were different around here, too -- with all the Persona powers floating around, he bet the police department had their hands full trying to keep people from setting each other's hair on fire. And if he were Double, he'd probably have his hands full, too.

But he wasn't. And without President Kougami around, well...

Actually, that might be a good thing. The last time Kougami had been allowed to poke around some ancient ruins, he'd unleashed an evil alchemist that wanted to destroy the world. And come to think of it, hadn't all the Greeed incidents been set into motion by Kougami, too?

He replaced the Medal, spotted an open candy store, and smiled. It had been a long time since he'd visited one of those. Pushing the door open, he made his way inside and over to the counter. There was a store clerk there, a young woman with her hair in a neat ponytail.

"Hey," he said, grinning, hand extended in an awkward little wave. He held out a coin. "How much can I get for this?"
